Weekly Thoughts

  • Celebrity reality TV is a community funded rehabilitation program so that B grade celebs don’t meet a drug and hotdog death. Solution for Britney: Why Yes!
  • The dog needs to learn to vacuum up his own bloody hair.
  • No matter what noise husband chooses as his alarm tone on his mobile, it will be annoying.
  • Magazines can breed and take over your house. You have been warned.
  • Karaoke Jukebox was a good idea at the time.
  • Blogging helps you to avoid being actually productive.

Good Things

Birthday girl, originally uploaded by phoof.

I turned 30 yesterday. There was supposed to be angst, stress or some kind of crisis regarding turning this age. None of those feelings came up. I suppose because despite the label, I do not really think I am that old yet! Denial. It can be useful.

I celebrated with a day trip up to the Hunter Valley visiting a few wineries and enjoying a beautiful picnic lunch in the winter sunshine at Audrey Wilkinson. In the evening our neighbours had the pleasure of hearing us singing along badly to karaoke/jukebox whilst 35 of my nearest and dearest partook in food and cocktail slushies! It was a great day.

I think the best thing about turning 30 is no longer having the need to justify or apologise for just ‘being’. I feel more relaxed in my own skin and grateful for all that I have. That’s one super gift in my opinion. So thanks for the memories friends, I am sure there will be more.

A Life. Alive.

There is a dog on my desk. I am wearing 3 layers plus a hoodie. There is sushi in my belly. Its 10 minutes to Dexter. One day to the weekend. I turn 30 next Saturday. There are chocolate ice-cream sticks in my freezer. I know what I am wearing tomorrow. Mismatched socks in the lost and found basket make for good bed socks.  The trees are beautiful at the moment ablaze in colour. I think I could run the bay run this year. My husband is unpacking coffee beans from his bag. Life ticks and tocks.

I Can See Clearly Now…the Rain Has Gone

Look all around, there’s nothin’ but blue skies
Look straight ahead, nothin’ but blue skies

A bit of wishful thinking in sodden Sydney. It has been 11 straight days of rain here and counting.

Curiosities

Things I have wondered this week:

  • What exactly is an ethnic scarf? And why is it this season’s essential?
  • What possesses someone to open yet another Indian restaurant on Lyons Road?
  • Why was the guy in the car behind me in the traffic jam playing a recorder?
  • Was carbonated water invented for me?
  • Is there someone whose job it is to name paint colours? Egyptian Sand, Parisian Dusk. I could do that job.
  • How do I get rid of miso soup stains on pants?
