Project 52: Week 17
Week 17: We were on our last leg in Japan staying in Yoshinoyama in a beautiful Ryokan. The trip there involved several trains, a fight at the train station and a cable car. The ryokan itself was worth the adventure getting there. Each night we were treated to a multi-course spectacular of local delights - one night a grill and the next night a hot pot accompanied by many many intricate dishes - one of which is pictured. It was all too pretty to eat, but of course we did. After dinner, we wrapped our bellies in cotton robes and had a cleansing hot bath. The baths were gender separated and each had an outdoor and indoor section. It is quite an experience sitting naked in a steaming hot wooden bath chatting to Japanese ladies in broken Japanese under a moonlit sky sipping cold sake.
