Project 52: Week 16
Week 16: Takayama. We were in Takayama specifically for the spring festival. It is acclaimed as one of the top 3 most beautiful festivals in Japan. Given we were going to be in Japan around the time it was held, it made sense to plan to go there. Sadly, torrential all day rain stopped the activities on Day 1 of the festival which would have included a night parade of floats. Thankfully on Day 2, the “highlight of the festival” - the marionette performance was able to go ahead. Each marionette display was held from the top of a festival float and controlled by skilled puppeteers hidden inside. Each marionette had a special surprise as part of the display including confetti, another puppet bursting out of a vessel and a woman that turned into a dragon. It was quite a sight!
