Summmery

First few weeks of the New Year always leave me drained. The post holiday come down, back to normal work hours, the lack of ham at every meal, the heat, the spare tire Santa gifted you made of restraint free cheese and cocktails and that whole mountain of a new year to climb.  Any suggestions on how to overcome this malady are welcome.

We enjoyed a lovely Christmas break visiting family and eating. Loved watching Ryan, my nephew play with his toy whipper snippers and leaf blowers.  On Boxing Day, we had a seaside lunch with friends at Manly - nothing quite beats that sparkling clear view of an azure sea rimmed by soft beige sand. Following that, we had a mini break to the Hawkesbury for 3 days. It was splendid isolation that could only be reached by a water taxi and 120 steps up.  Again, more eating and drinking with occasional bush walks. My summer resolution of having lots of naps was possibly the most successful, followed by painting our bedroom. 3 days of climbing up and down a step ladder with a hog bristle laden paint brush did not burn as many ham sandwiches as I had hoped. New Years Eve. Sydney harbour fireworks from a Darlinghurst roof with a belly full of Thai cuisine - can’t get much more Australian than that, mate. And then bang, just like that, back at a desk and a computer.

PS: I find whole cold mangoes eaten over a kitchen sink wearing shorts and a tank top is a reasonable remedy to the New Year malaise.
