Allora
Today, we are in the not so sunny outskirts of Sorrento. Safely met up with Jess, Andrew and Nat and braved the roads with them. Lucky Andrew was driving. Naples was pretty icky, lots of rubbish and generally just a big city.
Since we last spoke, we went from Florence to Bologna for one day. There we had a quick look around before doing a tour of Parma the next day of a Parmigiano Reggiano factory and a Prosciutto di Parma factory. It was great! We saw so MUCH cheese and so MUCH ham. We learnt how the cheese was made and sampled some of the delicacies. After the ham factory, we had lunch there of prosciutto and pork everything. Yummy. A highlight of the trip!
After Parma, we caught a train to Cinque Terre. We stayed in Manarola in an amazing house in one of the rooms. The house had a terrace right on the sea. It was really beautiful. Pink, yellow and terracato houses built into cliff faces with the waves crashing below. It has been one of my favourite places on the trip. After we checked in, we wandered around the town and of all places bumped into some friends from Sydney on their honeymoon. We had dinner with them the next night. Small world hey! We hiked from Manarola to Vernazza the next day, the weather was sunny and cool, just nice for walking. We enjoyed many seafood delicacies of the region: risotto pescatura, marinated anchovies, grilled fish and calamari and also pesto pasta. The next day it rained! Boooo. Still it was nice and relaxing catching the train around and…surprisingly…eating!
There is a birthday party going on for a 5 year old at the convent/hotel we are staying at…they are singing Happy Birthday in Italian right now! haha.
